Such controllers include helpful features such as: • Monitoring and trending • Alarming • Automation • Multi-protocol connectivity • Embedded web server • Cyber-security “Schneider Electric experts are delivering value-add to customers all over the world for their home and small building automation; in South Africa, we too are ready to introduce this to the market,” Calmeyer concludes.

in various areas such as security, operation & maintenance, energy and cleaning. Each of these providers needs a specific Internet access to a single BMS-in-a-box. This allows each user to access the information he or she needs and gives him or her the ability to issue various commands in the building. Though home automation and mid-market building automation solutions are the targets for a variety of connected systems, most homeowners and facility managers aren’t equipped to cope with the cost and complexity of a building supervision system. Because of these constraints, powerful controllers are a critical feature of solutions serving

OPPLE_JANUARY.pdf 1 2018/12/06 12:59:01 PM Whether the project in question is residential or a small to midsize building, a Light & Room Control solution, which successfully integrates all these disparate elements, can provide the comprehensive collection of applications required by the full range of users. It will be able to provide comfort and convenience to building occupants and deliver efficiency and reliability to service providers Schneider Electric offers Wiser, a full home control solution, integrating heating and lighting management into a single, user-friendly solution. C that technology. It is now possible for systems to control power, security and HVAC in offices and homes. “Today’s building automation professionals must consider the growing need for full and seamless integration, which incorporates a variety of different components and elements,” explains James Calmeyer, Vice President Southern Africa Buildings division, Schneider Electric South Africa. These specialist system controls can include: • Power distribution • HVAC • Door entry • Presence detectors • Security • Audio/video • Emergency lighting Schneider Electric offers technology, combined with aesthetics, to upgrade homes and offices to EcoStruxure Buildings Operation or KNX, where tasks are automated, allowing occupants to benefit from technology and save on power bills. Remote-controlled dimmers and shutters put the perfect ambiance within reach at all times. Presence detectors provide another kind of convenience. By automatically lighting a room when you enter, they eliminate any fumbling for a switch in the dark. Presence detectors save energy too, by turning the lights off automatically after you leave. a 22-degree angle will prevent the latter from happening. Brightness: Just like LED lights, LED floodlight brightness is accurately measured in lumens instead of watts. For example, a 60 W halogen consumes more energy than a 10WLED floodlight, even though they both produce 900 lumens. How do floodlight sensors work? Some LED floodlights have additional sensors that detect movement. They are usually set to remain on for a certain period before going off after detecting the motion. They can also be set to come on at dusk. Their advantages are that the movement detection from dusk to dawn is excel- lent for security purposes. The timer is also a bo- nus because it optimises energy saving by shut- ting off automatically. It is important to consider close neighbours when using motion detection lighting in a residential area. LED floodlights are waterproof (they have an IP65 rating). This means that they can be used outside, safely, in all weather conditions. The beauty of LED floodlights is that they can be placed near swimming pools, and in parking lots, gardens, warehouses, stadiums, and the like. Solar LED floodlights. Solar LED floodlights are especially useful for people who do not have access to running power. They have built-in sensors that detect movement, and they have no ongoing running costs. They are the perfect option for sheds, alleyways, and inaccessible areas. Installation is also relatively straightforward. Portable LED floodlights Portable LED floodlights are ideal for people who work on the move, such as construction workers, garage/workshop workers, etc, who work in places where access to power is difficult. Portable LED floodlights are also waterproof, and they can be used for large and small areas. They can provide up to four hours of remote light, but they need to be charged through a car lighter adaptor or a mains adaptor. Portable LED floodlights are just like the regular LED floodlights, with a 50 000 hour lifespan and great energy saving compared to their halogen and metal halide counterparts. M Y CM MY CY CMY K
