DECORATIVE LED LIGHTING FOR PRESTIGIOUS LIFESTYLE ESTATE

PIR SOLAR POWERED LIGHT

C lara Anna Fontein is a new upmarket residen- tial development next to the winelands in Dur- banville, Cape Town. BEKA Schréder supplied the decorative residential street lighting for this project. Situated just 20 minutes’ drive from the Cape Town CBD, Clara Anna Fontein is an exclusive lifestyle estate where contemporary living blends harmoniously with large tracts of lush open areas, protected wetlands and a private game reserve. BEKA Schréder supplied the Albany LED street light on decorative Castlenau Columns, and specially de- signed and manufactured LED ‘Rock Cage Bollards’. The Albany LED streetlight was chosen for its classical shape, which suits the ambience of the estate. Equipped with state-of-the-art LED technology, the Albany LED

improves the quality, comfort and safety of any light- ing installation while offering significant energy savings and reduced CO 2 emissions. Electronic temperature monitoring prevents overheating of LEDs and power supply, positioned directly next to LEDs (ThermiXR). The Rock Cage Bollard was purposefully designed for the estate to blend into the landscape. Low light levels were required to keep the farm estate ambience. BEKA Schréder locally develops and manufactures LED lighting products, designed and suitable for local conditions. The company is proud to be associated with Element Consulting Engineers in providing a success- ful decorative LED lighting solution for this project.

MIMIC COMPONENTS’ all-in-one, low energy solar light is available in 24 W or 48 W variants, which are typically mounted 5 m apart with easy clamping di- rectly onto a straight pole between 50 m/70 m in diameter. The main features are the built-in passive infra- red sensor (PIR) combined with a low output. The light emanates a steady 10% lumen output and lights up to 100% power when triggered by the PIR, which lasts for around 30 seconds. The trigger is set off when someone walks underneath the light or in close proximity to it. This is convenient for the walker and aids as a visual security measure. The low power mode acts as a dim courtesy light, ensuring the path is visible. At 100% power, the light has exceptional illumi- nation and no reticulation. Maximum illumination at 100% power lasts for two hours and at 10% power, up to 16 hours with a direction range of 90°~ max. 6 m (24 °C) detection. Light output is 1 600 lumen for a 24 W unit and 3 200 lumen for 48 W. The design consideration ensures independent protection of the PIR board, battery and LED, giving it an IP65 ranking. The power source is a Li-ion battery and solar power and charging times are 9.5 hours for 24 W and 12 hours for 48 W. The product has two battery indications; one shows a consistent light when fully charged and the other shows a slow rate flashing red light for low battery status. Application is suited to outdoor parking lots at shopping malls and hotels, for commercial perime- ter fencing, in holiday resorts, game reserves, camp- ing sites and residential complexes. It is also useful on secondary roads and in communal areas.
