Light for a special shopping experience

T he Chinese fashion industry has gained in importance worldwide over the past few years thanks to a new design language and the creative development of traditional forms. Young brand ENG offers not only stylish clothing and accessories but also lifestyle products and technical gadgets. In ENG’s first Chinese flagship store, an intelligent lighting control system featuring light-on-demand from Tridonic adds to the shop- ping experience and underlines the label’s very own design language. The first ENG flagship store in central Shanghai sees itself as a creative showroom with its own unique aesthetics. A major feature is the lighting concept. Not only does it create an ideal interplay between light and shadow, but it always provides the right light in all ar- eas. The precisely matched lighting conveys the DNA of the brand and visually represents the wishes of the predominantly young buyers. The lighting architecture has to meet a variety

of requirements such as uniform, optimum quality of light at all times and a constant colour tempera- ture. Another aim is for lighting effects to be created throughout the aisles, walkways and shelves to high- light the details and texture of the displays and to il- luminate them in their real colours. The ENG flagship store is also used for a wide range of events that are bathed in colourful and lively, yet subtle and balanced lighting. Lighting concept with record values The extensive lighting concept for ENG required a light-on-demand solution with intelligent lighting con- trol. Tridonic provided suitable LED drivers with appro- priate peripherals. basicDIM Wireless technology enables intelligent, wireless control via Bluetooth of all the luminaires and spotlights installed in the ENG flagship store. Using an app (iOS and Android), store managers can turn the luminaires on and off, dim them or group them

from anywhere within the sales area. This allows for the quality of light to be adjusted quickly and flexibly to the respective display or sales area. LED drivers and communication modules are connected in five mesh networks. These networks can be operated complete- ly without an additional gateway thanks to wireless technology. Calibration by the drivers and LED modules ensures high white light quality from 2 700 to 6 500 K – at constant luminous flux in all colour temperatures and perfect colour consistency between systems and lu- minaires. The built-in DT8 PRE drivers offer outstand- ing dimming between 1 and 100 percent thanks to DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface). Dynamic lighting concept enhances shop- ping experience ENG’s flagship store welcomes its customers with basic lighting that provides a soft shimmering back- ground for the merchandise displays. Tunable White

gives the impression of natural light discreetly blend- ing in with the room architecture. This landscape is broken up by spotlights and downlights precisely where the customer’s focus needs to be directed – to interior details or specific merchandise. At the same time, the ceiling lighting always remains in the back- ground while walls and doors stand out from their sur- roundings. Thanks to the lighting installation, custom- ers can experience the store in new ways again and again. Almost imperceptibly, it conveys ENG’s fashion trends and design language, creating a unique shop- ping experience. The installation of Tridonic’s wireless light manage- ment system allows ENG to use light in in new ways in its store. The fashion brand now benefits from a stronger presence for its design language, which is presented in a modern and innovative way within a charming interplay between light and shadow.

Natural light colours for reliable working

IESSA takes courses online T o ensure precautionary, proactive measures to minimise the risk of spreading the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) IESSA has announced that it will be taking its courses online, via the Zoom Webinar based platform. IESSA is proud to be able to provide courses na- tionally and provide course access to its members. IESSA’s focus remains the development of skills and to develop and promote Accredited Lighting Practitioners (ALP’s) through training, application and registration. A key benefit to members is the new fee structure for the online courses, providing a provisional 69% reduction in fees from the standard course fee structure. The first course to be presented online is Module 2: Interior Lighting, scheduled for the 14th and 15th July. An updated course schedule shall be issued shortly to list future courses. The closing date for registration for Module 2: Interior Lighting, for which two CPD points can be earned, is 6th July. The presenter will be André Blignaut and the following topics will be covered in the course: • Lighting terms • Lighting pros and cons • Lighting for Interiors design (Lumen method) • Glare • Emergency lighting

B right torches or headlamps are indis- pensable for many areas of work. In terms of colour rendering, the light of an LED luminaire usually differs greatly from the natural light of the sun or even that of a light bulb. This has to do with the fact that this artificial light does not contain all spec- tral colours. In most cases, it is easy to accept that the colour of the illuminated objects is not reproduced one hundred per cent true to life. For some activities, however, natural light is very important in order to be able to work accurately and faultlessly. If the light is similar to daylight, you can work longer un- der artificial lighting without tiring your eyes. The Solingen-based company Ledlenser has developed CRI lamps precisely for this purpose. CRI is the abbreviation for Colour Render- ing Index. This index describes how naturally the colour of an object is represented under light and is an important quality feature of artificial light. The ideal reference value is sunlight with a CRI of 100. Ledlenser’s CRI lamps have a value of 90 – in contrast to CRI 70 for a ‘normal’ cold white LED lamp. Many workers in the industrial and craft sectors need lamps with natural light. High precision is particularly important during testing. Weak points can be made more visible with CRI lamps. This applies, for ex-

ample, to mechanical and plant engineer- ing, especially to pressure equipment and steel piping. During the visual inspection of welds, impermissible oxidation layers, which can lead to rust in the long term, can be de- tected much better. In the transport sector, CRI lamps are used for the safety inspection of bridges, the maintenance of trains and air- craft or in the automotive industry for vehicle inspections or paintwork. Natural light helps electricians to distinguish between coloured cables and wires. CRI lamps are also used in medicine. This is confirmed, for example, by the members of Medical Crew. The Allgäu company pro- vides medical care at numerous renowned sporting events, such as the Zugspitz Ultrat- rail and the Stubai Ultratrail. Matthias Hoeter, founder and head of Medical Crew, explains the advantages of Ledlenser’s CRI lamps: “It is important for us to be able to judge the participants in real colour spectra. The vis- ibility on the skin is actually better and more natural with these lamps, because it hardly reflects at all when the skin is wet.” For these and many other applications Ledlenser also offers the Natural Light tech- nology. The portfolio currently includes four special CRI lamps. Ledlenser is therefore one of the few manufacturers of mobile LED light to offer this technology. The flashlights

from the i9 CRI, i9R Iron CRI, i4R CRI indus- trial series and the iH7R CRI headlamp are tailored to the needs of quality inspectors, industrial workers, electricians and doctors. These lamps reproduce colours absolutely naturally even in the deepest darkness. The natural light technology of the Ledlenser CRI series produces a neutral white light with a colour temperature of 4000 Kelvin and a colour rendering index (CRI) of 90. These values guarantee true colour rendering, even in the deep red colour range. This makes the products of the CRI series an irreplaceable companion for all those who have to rely on their eyes at all times to de- liver a 100% accurate result – in the trade as well as in rescue services or industry.
