ELLIES LAUNCHES NEW FLOODLIGHT RANGE

ELLIES has launched its new range of floodlights where innova- tion and adding value to its customers were key factors in capturing market share in both the retail and commercial markets. The range, ALS Floodlights (Ambient Light Sensor), has a built in-sensor which automatically switches on the lights when the lux level drops below 400 lux and turns them off when the lux level reaches 400 lux. This eliminates floodlights from being left on during the day or customers having to purchase expensive day/night switches to provide the same product functionality.

When designing the product, the engineers were tasked with cre- ating a floodlight which had a wide spread of light versus the spot effect, common with most products in the market. The ALS range has a beam angle of 120 degrees, thereby decreasing the number of floodlights required in an installation to light up an area With the added advantage of built-in Crystal Driver technology, thermal management controls the lumen maintenance and lamp life of the product, allowing the company to offer customers a 10 year warranty. The floods also have a CRI of <80 which enables billboard com-

• Can be programmed to automatically dim at a pre-determined time to reduce energy consumption i.e. dims to 40% output from 1 am until sunrise • 10 year warranty • 7 800 Lumens, 120° beam angle, CRI+90 (colour rendering index) Key points Product enhancements made to the Ellies FLALS100W flood lamp based on the findings of this test and by request from the client: The Ellies FLALS100W operates at 100% illumination until a pre-determined time i.e. 1 am; the Crystal Driver then automatically reduces the output of the flood lamp to 40% from midnight and switches off at sunrise. This allows a significant energy saving while also extending the life of the flood lamp. The colour rendering Index (CRI) was increased from +80 to CRI +90. The higher CRI value allows the true colours of the medium illuminated to be displayed.

panies to use these floods on their bill- boards to enhance their customer’s adver- tising and marketing by bringing out the correct colour rendering, a critical factor for an advertiser. The floodlight form factor is compact and smaller than other products on the market as there is no Switch Mode power supply used in the design and manufacture of the product. The range of floods is available in 10, 20, 30, 50, 100 and 200 W and can be pur- chased at major national retailers or via the Ellies Commercial Solutions Division. Case study Outdoor advertising company JCDe- caux’s philosophy is never to rest on its laurels and to find ways to improve its offering to its clients by regulary review- ing and challenging its suppliers. This offered a perfect opportuntiy for Ellies. JCDecaux ran a pilot project and tested the Ellies 100 W LED flood lamp to see if it was a better value proposition and solution to the existing LED flood lamps being used to illuminate key JCDecaux billboard sites. The pilot sites provided Ellies with the opportunity to demonstrate the perfor- mance of the flood lamps, and enabled them to engage with JCDecaux to under- stand their requirements and develop be- spoke solutions for their unique lighting needs.

expenses further down the road”. Mimic’s new LED floodlights can be used for all types of warehous- ing, including aviation hangers, in factories, for indoor or outdoor activities including sporting arenas, at excavations and mining areas, through to industrial plants, on docks, harbour areas and at cargo depots. Standard features include 120° beam angle, 7-year warranty, IP65, and operating temperatures of -35 °C to +65 °C.

MIMIC COMPONENTS recently added well-priced, quality LED flood- lights to its locally stocked prod- uct range. “Lighting quality is often overlooked or compromised at the purchasing stage of a project,” said Edwin Wakefield, MD of Mimic Com- ponents. “Two key factors to bear in mind are the time and the cost of a re-installation. Another factor for lighting interruption is careless wiring. Be realistic about long-term costs,” suggested Wakefield, “Buy decent floodlights and make sure the wiring is done correctly the first time around to alleviate unexpected
