APP SCANS TESYS GV4 CIRCUIT BREAKERS

• Unbalance (phase currents not equal) and phase loss (1 or 2 phases missing). IIoT features Fully configurable advanced protection includes Ecoreach software on a computer connected to the test socket through a configuration and maintenance module, and the wireless application on Android smart- phones through NFC. Available only as an Android app,, the app can: • View and configure protection settings. • View alarms and basic device information. • Check fault history to speed up maintenance. • Scan existing protection settings, device information and alarms. • Modify settings and apply them to the device. • Clear alarms on the device. • Save settings as templates for copy to multiple devices. • View history of all scanned devices. • “When engineers come to differentiate between motor circuit break- ers versus fuse protection, they need to consider that circuit breakers are a common solution for protecting motors against short circuits and overloads. As a comparison, a fuse-based solution can only pro- vide a partial protection, depending on the choice of the fuse type and rating. The thermal magnetic circuit breaker is adjustable and can be fine-tuned to the actual motor load,” concludes Kotze. RAIL-MOUNT FIBRE OPTIC DISTRIBUTOR FOR NETWORK EXPANSION ON DEMAND J asco’s Webb Industries has introduced Telegärtner’s new, modular rail-mount fibre optic distributor. The all-new STX distributor can be extended according to actual needs. The stackable modules allow quick and easy additions and changes at any time. A vast portfolio of modules with different adaptors offers the flexibility that is needed in today’s industrial networks. In spite of their compact size, the modules offer more than enough space for fibre slack. Huge variety of connecting hardware The STX rail-mount distributor offers a vast portfolio of different modules that accept twelve fibres and ST, SC and LC adaptors as well as a high-density LC module with 24 fibres. All modules are available for OM1 to OM4 multimode and OS2 single-mode fibres. Customers can select Enquiries: +27 (0)11 254 6400

Schneider Electric , at the end of 2018, released a TeSys GV4 multifunction mobile app that connects to its new TeSys GV4 motor circuit breaker to provide basic and advanced protection settings configuration, using a near field communication (NFC) interface. The technology of the GV4 circuit breakers offers advanced protection with ratings of up to 115 A with service breaking capacity (Ics) of 25 kA/400 V (B series), 50 kA/400 V (N series) or 100 kA/400 V (S series). “The electronic core of GV4 gives a greater detection accuracy, with alarm and advanced protection,” explains Christo Kotze of Schneider Electric South Africa. “The multifunction motor protection GV4, with advanced adjustable functions, may be equipped with one or two SDx alarm/fault differentiation modules to prevent trips, or to identify the type of fault after a trip.” Power connections and basic functions The breakers are fitted standard with 2-hole EverLink power connectors and creep compensation, for bare copper cables. “This patented Schneider Electric technology makes it possible to achieve accurate and durable tightening torque in order to re- duce the risk of cables working loose due to creeping. Resistance to vibration is improved and periodic re-tightening is no longer needed,” adds Kotze. Basic functions include: • Short circuit protection against an instantaneous trip of the circuit

breaker: tripping is achieved through a magnetic element incorpo- rated in the motor circuit breaker or by electronic detection (GV4 and GV7). • Overload protection: this is obtained by means of a thermal element incorporated in the motor circuit breaker, or by sen- sors for electronic products (GV4 and GV7). An automatic compensation for ambient temperature variations is also provided. • Motor On/Off control: provides a local manual control of the motor when used on its own (without a contactor). Operation is possible by toggle or a single rotary handle. • Contacts position indication: the circuit breakers accurately indi- cate the position of the moving contacts. Advanced modules Additional functionality can be achieved through advanced modules: • Under voltage protection: trips the circuit breaker in the case of under voltage, which protects users against sudden starting of the machine when normal voltage is restored. • Remote off power: the breaker can be remotely tripped with the addition of a shunt trip. • Off locking: both open-mounted and enclosed motor circuit break- ers can be locked in the off position by up to 3 padlocks. In addition to basic protection, GV4 also embeds protections against: • Long start (high inertia, resistive torque machines).

• Jam (over torque, machine failure). • Ground fault (reduced isolation).

MS2N SERVO MOTOR BREAKS BOUNDARIES IN THE ELECTRIC DRIVES AND CONTROLS INDUSTRY

T he new MS2N Synchronous Servo Motor is Tectra Automations’ latest product offering to break new bound- aries in the Electric Drives and Controls in- dustry. The new MS2N servo motor range combines high dynamics with compact dimensions and excellent energy efficiency, with more torque, higher speeds, a practi- cal single-cable connection and extensive options for the highest servo mechanism requirements. The new MS2N includes over 50 motor types in six motor sizes, five motor lengths, and more than 20 fully configurable options, covering maximum torque up to 360 Nm and maximum rotational speeds up to 9 000 rpm. It is 30% smaller than its predecessor, has a low rotor inertia for maximum dynamics and high rotor inertia for optimal adaption motor masses. It comes equipped with a quick locking mechanism which is simple, practical and reduces installation time. In the MS2N product line, intelligence progresses all the way up to the motor by storing the individual readings of every single motor as well as the saturation and temperature data, into the motor data memory.

Applications in which this product may be utilised include force and pressure control in robotics and production machines and condition monitoring, like detection of production faults or bad parts. Tectra Automation, a Bosch Rexroth South Africa Company, is a leader in the supply of automation solutions, providing leading technology, expertise and product support across Africa.

The MS2N Servo Motor comes equipped with a certified SIL3 Encoder, which allows for maximum level of safety for all safety functions. This includes safe absolute end position which replaces the hardware limit switch by software, 31 configurable safe cam areas, reduced commissioning due to semi-automatic support and PC-free device replacement when servicing. The motor has a maximum torque error range of 5%, which compares very well with the standard torque error range of +5 and -35%.

This includes modules with an integrated hinged splice cassette and pigtails stripped ready-to-splice and modules for pre-terminated fibre optic cables – each of them proving the Telegärtner STX distributor’s superior expertise. 45-degree angle so users can conveniently plug patch cords in and out using a minimum of valuable space. Horizontal cables can enter the modules from four different directions. This gives the installer the opportunity to decide on site about the best cable routing. “This offers users and installers the maximum flexibility,” says Webb’s Stephen Hands. Space miracle with small dimensions With dimensions of just 35 x 215 x 155 mm (two-module width), the compact modules make the most of available space, enabling users and installers at the same time to con- veniently patch and store any fibre slack. The modules can be mounted on TH35 rails as specified in DIN 60715 and on flat surfaces/walls.
