SASOL HEADQUARTERS: A SENSE OF LIGHTNESS LIGHTING INNOVATIONS AFRICA (LIA) was awarded the contract for the illumination of the new Sasol head office on Katherine Street in Sandton. The brief was to provide an in- novative, energy efficient lighting solution – designed with staff comfort in mind – with maximum use of natural light and including a full light management system. Further re- quirements included running cost efficiency, low maintenance and control of luminaires. All office lighting, outdoor lighting and the lighting management system was supplied by Light- ing Innovations. The ECU controls the lighting using a combination of six strategies to save between 50 to 75%. The polaris 3D is the graphical interface that views the building in 3D, providing various thermographic views to show status, energy consumption and all system information. Each ECU is equipped with four DALI channels that enable it to control up to 256 fixtures and 256 sensors or switches. For the outdoor installation including pathway lightings, tree uplighting, garden lights and façade lighting, LED was used throughout. Enquiries: +27 (0)11 444 1168

The offices, meeting rooms and common areas are illuminated by 5800 Pallure LED light fittings, locally manufactured at LIA’s Port Elizabeth factory. The Pallure is a stylish, perforated recessed fitting designed specifically for office illumination. To meet the strict control criteria requested by the client, the ENCELIUM lightmanagement systemwas selected. It is a DALI based system that enables comprehensive control of the whole lighting system via remote access and makes use of daylight harvesting, occupancy control, personal control and smart time scheduling, the combination of which can deliver energy savings of up to 75%. ENCELIUM is a flexible and powerful way to manage a lighting space. It is the only lighting control system that can gather data from a range of lighting component suppliers to tailor lighting usage with changing requirements – making any building fit for the future. The system consists of a central service unit that enables users to control the lighting by floor, zone or by individual fixtures. The sensors, switches and fixtures are all wired back to an energy control unit (ECU) via the DALI bus. SIMPLE PATH TO PERFECT LIGHT S urface-mounted Compar Square luminaires From ERCO feature four highly precise and efficient distributions: wide flood and oval wide flood for the standard-compliant illumination of workstations, and extra wide flood and oval flood for the efficient lighting of circulation areas, ancillary rooms and corridors that also enable particularly economical luminaire spacing. Compar optics offer high levels of visual comfort due to a 30° cut-off, and louvres are available in black or highly specular silver. The Compar Square system also has three lumen packages that allow lighting designers to coordinate luminous flux to room zones with different uses or various room heights. The scale ranges from 1260 lm to a high-output 4920 lm, making Compar Square surface-mounted luminaires ideal for the powerful illumination of higher rooms. The high-performance LEDs accommodated in a compact, cast aluminium housing always keep a cool head – sophisticated thermal management ensures optimum operating conditions for both the LED modules and for the operating electronics accommodated in the space between the modules. This along with careful selection of components ensures the luminaires are able to fully exploit the high lumen values of the LEDs. The elegant housing is powder-coated in white 200mm square and has a height of just 64 mm. The luminaire is installed onto a separate mounting plate and can be adjusted by +/-3° for perfect alignment. Suitable spacer plates are available as accessories for routing the cables on plaster. Compar Square is available in warm white (3000 K) and neutral white (4000 K) light colours. In addition to switchable control gear, ERCO also offers phase dimmable control gear and variants with DALI interface.
