The project also focuses on promoting social development. The challenge Johannesburg is characterised by a stark contrast between wealthy and impoverished areas. High crime rates, including violent and property crimes, pose challenges for residents and businesses. Cable theft and power outages often leave streets dark at night, causing commuters to feel unsafe as they travel between work, school, and home. For many commuters from outlying areas, crossing the Nelson Mandela Bridge became impractical, increasing their travel times and daily struggles.

The solution Jozi My Jozi is a grassroots movement for the people, by the people—igniting hope and instilling pride in the city of Johannesburg. It brings together a consortium of companies and individuals from both the private and public sectors. Ledvance South Africa, in partnership with a project specialist company, was invited to contribute sustainable solutions to revitalise the inner city, with the aim of inspiring positive change that could ripple across South Africa. The Nelson Mandela Bridge Project was launched to restore the bridge’s lighting, reinforcing its status as a beacon of hope and transformation. Ledvance retrofitted the Nelson Mandela Bridge with OneEightyOne RGBW floodlights, providing a dynamic and customisable lighting solution. Additionally, Ledvance Performance Solar Streetlights (60W, 4000K) were installed
