A PERFECT COMBINATION TO IMPROVE PRODUCTIVITY AND SAVE ENERGY

HELVAR FIRST TO LAUNCH DALI-2 CERTIFIED LED DRIVER HELVAR has launched its filtered hybrid dimming DALI LED driver LL1x80-CR-DA, the first DALI-2 certified product in the world. Representing a major step forward in its development of modern lighting components, the company is to launch more products and services that meet the DALI-2 standard. Helvar is at the forefront of this technology, creating customer focused products that enhance the user’s experience of the built environment and reduce costs for property owners. The DALI-2 standard, the latest version of the IEC 62386 standard for DALI technology, is administered by the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA), which certifies that products that carry the DALI-2 logo are compliant with the standard’s protocols. The DiiA, a newly established body which administers the process, is an industry driven non-profit organisation that promotes and supports the use of DALI and is driving further development of the DALI standard. Helvar is represented in South Africa by Advanced Lighting Systems. MELLOW LIGHT is soft, warm light that is not too bright. Mellow light makes the space it is illuminat- ing appear brighter at lower levels of illuminance and the concept is therefore one of perception. In modern buildings emphasis has shifted towards ‘greening’, with typical office spaces being designed at 350 to 400 lux. It is around these levels that the concept of Mellow Light was developed and the biggest challenge when designing LED fixtures for this environment, is how to eliminate the bright spots created by SMD devices while allowing sufficient light through the diffusing medium. ‘The light you see is the light that is trapped’, is typified by older technology LED panel fixtures. With light output ratios of up to 87%, W/m 2 /100 lux is no longer a challenge. Lascon’s RCM – LED – 25 W fixture, at 350/400 lux in a typical open-plan office environment, is less than 1 W/m 2 /100 lux. Couple this to lu- men maintenance in excess of 60 000 hours (L70/F10) and it becomes evident that Lascon LED products have exceptionally low power con- sumption and they are virtually maintenance-free. Add the Hubbell OMNIDTRP 2000 sensor and daylight harvesting can be incorporated into fixtures adjacent to windows, with the deeper spaces controlled by presence only. And, Lascon’s Hubbell RP sensors are relatively inexpensive compared to other dimmable daylight harvesting systems. No-one can argue with the fact that the biggest power saving achieved is ‘fixtures turned off’. All Lascon luminaires are produced in South Africa. Enquiries: +27 (0)11 879 2500
