MANY POSITIVES TO TAKE FROM INAUGURAL iSA LIGHTING TREND SHOW

T he iSA Lighting Trend Show, held in August, gave Chinese lighting manufacturers the op- portunity to showcase their wares and network with the South African lighting industry. Ange Hua, from iSA Lighting Trend Show, says, “For us, it was a good experience. We are different from other exhibitions in that we only focus on lighting, and are getting to know the local market.” While the show was professionally put together with a number of striking stands, more feet were almost certainly expected. But it seems it was a case of quality over quantity, as many of the prominent players in the South African lighting industry were seen across the two days and the exhibitors themselves – especially the larger companies used to attending such shows – saw many positives. “Many deals have been signed,” explains Hua. “On the first day we had a customer who came all the way fromKenya specifically for the show, and signed contracts with a few of the suppliers.” As a sign of intent, iSA Lighting Trend Show has already booked a larger exhibition space for the same time in 2019 with the vision of doubling its size. “We will return year by year, making it bigger and bigger,” says Hua. He notes that the first show was a learning curve

and that some of the products showcased were not suitable for the South African market. “The professional exhibitors are confident of orders from the contacts they made. For future events we will look at inviting more dealers, buyers and franchisors. We are very excited about the market in Africa and want to look at inviting buyers from neighbouring countries to come next year. If we achieve our targets, our show will be the best you can find. “We will bring manufacturers from around the world to South Africa as we see huge potential in this market. Most of the exhibitors at the show are suppliers to famous international brands, and we look forward to introducing them to a new market in Africa,” concludes Hua. The show took place at the Sandton Convention Centre on August 16 and 17. Spread over 4 000 m 2 , the over 90 exhibitors focused on decorative lighting, LED lamps, outdoor lighting and solar lighting. HIGHLIGHTING THE MOST SIGNIFICANT TRANSFORMATION IN LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY

offers the same level of power reduction, whilst maintaining or improving on operational performance. Although much of the show was dedicated to signage and printing; exhibitors, including Philips Lighting and a number of overseas brands, had an opportunity to share knowledge and products with visitors.

The Africa LED Expo, sponsored by Philips Lighting South Africa, was co-located with FESPA Africa, Sign Africa and Africa Print Expos at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand in September. Aimed at improving lighting energy performance,LED sources have become the number one efficiency recommendation. LED lighting has been high on the wider energy efficiency agenda for several years, but right now no other technology change

WORLD FIRST LIGHTING APP

BEKA Schréder has announced the launch of its Augmented Reality (AR) App, a first in the world with street lighting applications. It offers an arsenal of scaled and accurately detailed products in the palm of your hand. BEKA Schréder’s App is the first in the world to use augmented reality to prove the principles of street lighting, by allowing the user to see the difference in photometry relating to optics. The AR App allows users in remote areas to see and interact with BEKA Schréder products, as if they were in front of them, without the need for a physical sample.

What the App provides: The App allows the user to augment reality, in real time, by placing scaled models of BEKA Schréder’s products and poles in any environment, indoors and outdoors. It allows the user to see the difference in photometry regarding optics, by switching these products on and off in the augmented reality environment. This will assist the user to understand clearly why optics are so vital when used with LED technology. It allows the user to zoom in on special features of the products to view finer details; this assists in understanding how the product stands out from others.

It allows the user to take a snapshot of the augmented reality scene, and instantly e-mail the image. The BEKA Schréder App is available for download free of charge at Apple iStore and Google Play Store (search for ‘BEKA Schréder AR’). For the best user experience, devices such as the iPad Pro, iPhone 8 or later, Samsung Tablet, Samsung Galaxy S8+ or devices with similar specifications are recommended. BEKA Schréder locally develops and manufactures LED lighting products, designed and suitable for local conditions.
