MULTI-CHANNEL POWER ANALYSERS

T he growing demand for electricity, unpredictable power supply and load shedding make it imperative to protect electronic equipment from power surges. These are caused when power is restored after interruptions, as well as by load shedding; vandal- ism; cable theft; power outages; overloaded socket outlets and lightning strikes. Power dips or brown-outs pose substantial risk to equipment as dips and surges can degrade electronic components. Ellies offers surge protectors which cater for all home and office equipment including medium surge protection adaptors; multi-plugs and extension leads; plugs to pro- tect fridges and television sets, as well as a high surge range with a two-year surge warranty. NEW SURGE PROTECTION RANGE

M agnet’s range of Carlo Gavazzi multi-channel power analysers and automation products includes WM50 multi-channel power analys- ers, which efficiently measure main electrical variables, as well as voltage and current harmonic distortions, in a three or single-phase system. “This flexible device is able to view total and partial active and reactive energy consumption; up to three water, gas and heat totalisers and up to six different energy consumption tariffs,” says Stephen Rogerson, Magnet’s Johannesburg regional manager. “The system, which provides up to 16 alarms, can be integrated with accessory modules to expand its control and communication capacity. Main unit functions are increased with the addition of a maximum of two modules, which include a digital input/output module, an analogue input module and a communication module.” Three analogue inputs and six digital inputs and digital outputs are managed via an optional accessory module. The system is able to transmit data to other systems and is also used to log measurements and events. The WM50 device has been designed for quick configuration and easy installation. Detachable terminals connect to 12-channel current sensors with proprietary cables, and clips are supplied with sensors to ensure efficient operation at all times. The wide backlit LED display clearly shows single and total load measurements, as well as configuration parameter values. Digital communication between current sensors and the WM50 device ensures excellent

disturbance immunity. Magnet’s range of Carlo Gavazzi automation products also includes energy-management solutions, including energy meters, current transformers and energy- efficiency monitoring solutions, as well as the VMU range of integrated web server solutions. These automation systems are suitable for use in diverse industries, including agriculture, building and home automation, conventional and renewable energy, food and beverage plants and HVAC systems. They are also used in packaging and plastics machines, as well as lifts and escalators. The Magnet Group, which specialises in the supply, implementation and support of electrical equipment, industrial instrumentation and automation, provides a technical and support service throughout Africa, to ensure optimum performance of all components.

RICH FUNCTIONALITY AT NOMINAL POWER RATINGS UP TO 100 W

T he latest Phoenix Contact Quint Power DIN-rail power supplies, available from RS Components, give easy access to the innovative features and flexibility of these space-saving PSUs. The fourth generation of Quint Power covers power ratings up to 100 W, with 24 V output voltage and 1.3 A, 2.5 A, and 3.8 A nominal current ratings. They are the first members of the Quint Power family below 100 W to feature Phoenix Contact’s dynamic boost technology, which can supply up to 200% of nominal maximum current for up to five seconds to start loads that place high short-term initial demand.

Quint Power power supplies have an ambient operating-temperature range of -25 °C to 70 °C for use in a wide range of environments. Their slim and flat 90 mm-high design saves space inside enclosures, while efficiency of up to 93.7 % prevents excessive heat and helps cut energy consumption.

In addition, the 1.3 A and 2.5 A models also support static boost that allows 25% over-current at any time for five seconds, to handle short-term peaks. Further value-added features in- clude preventive function monitor- ing, which warns of critical operat- ing states before errors occur, and configurable signalling of dc OK or selectable power thresholds that let users adapt output-parameter moni- toring to suit the application. The wide ac input range of 85 V-264 V, and dc range of 88 V-350 V, gives flexibility to power the units from various sources, such as the main ac line in any geographical market, or a dc bus, battery bank, or industrial power supply.

PCB MOUNT DC CONTACTORS

GIGAVAC’s PCB mount contactors are the latest series in Denver Tech- nical Product’s line of sealed power contactors. The PCB mount solution is what many OEM customers ask for when specifying a contactor that can handle sizeable dc loads and be PCB mounted for cost effective in- stallation. With voltage ratings from 12 V dc to 1200 V dc, GIGAVAC PCB mount contactors are rated to switch loads in excess of 400 A and interrupt short

circuit currents to 3500 A (voltage dependent). The contactors can be mounted in any axis or orientation and are sealed to withstand virtually any harsh environment. All GIGAVAC PCB mount power contactors meet RoHS and CE Conformance requirements. The contactors feature internal transorb for coil suppression. No external diodes should be added across the coil.
