W BHO was awarded the proj ect i n Januar y 2019 , thi s a f ter the c l os i ng o f L i v i ero. I t had comp l eted the ear thworks , the basement and ha l f o f the f i r st- f l oor st ructure . WBHO had the cha l l enge o f estab l i shi ng on a s i te wi th l i t t l e room to work wi th , wi th onl y one c rane , and a wayl eave o f one l ane for a l l de l i ver i es and conc rete works . Ne i ghbour i ng bu i l d i ngs r i ght aga i nst the per imeter wa l l meant that s i te estab l i shment and p l anni ng became the c r i t i ca l f i r st task to handl e . The Jor i s sen St reet student accommodat i on proj ect i s s i tuated i n the hear t o f Johannesburg CBD i n Braamfonte i n , ac ros s f rom Wi t s Uni ver s i t y and Ar t Museum, and was const ructed as a brand new 17 storey bu i l d i ng . Thi s forms par t o f South Po i nt ’s student accommodat i on growth , a l l owi ng student s to stay more cent ra l to uni ver s i t i es .

Wi th a st ructure that cons i st s o f a s i ng l e sha f t and three shear wa l l s i n the cent re o f the bu i l d i ng ’s footpr i nt , a hydrau l i c UNI -ULMA c l imb i ng system was used to a l l ow the bu i l d i ng ’s sha f t to c l imb ahead o f the rest o f the st ructure . The eng i neer i ng between a l l par t i es at the beg i nni ng o f a hi gh- r i se st ructure and the cor rect pos i t i oni ng o f a c rane are imperat i ve to the succes s o f the st ructure and thi s wi l l l ead to the succes s f u l comp l et i on o f a cont ract . The f i r st conc rete was poured on 19 Februar y 2019 and the l ast s l ab o f the 17 th f l oor was poured on 11 October 2019 . The 17 - storey hi gh r i se bu i l d i ng ’s st ructure was comp l eted i n l i t t l e l es s than e i ght months . The i nter i or o f the bu i l d i ng cons i st s ma i nl y o f the t rend i ng l i ghtwe i ght Hebe l b l ock . Thi s was a new i nnovat i on used to save on we i ght , there fore a l l owi ng a l i ghter s l ab des i gn for the ent i re bu i l d i ng . These b l ocks were used more than 30 year s ago whi ch were ho l l ow to a l l owed for a sav i ng i n we i ght . The Hebe l b l ock i s a f u l l b l ock made f rom l i ghtwe i ght conc rete whi ch i ncorporates po l yst y rene . An est imated 28 000 m 2 o f Hebe l b l ocks was l a i d i n thi s proj ect . A Roan Sat i n face br i ck façade i ncorporat i ng t i l i ng , euro spray and powder coated stee l wi ndows saw thi s bu i l d i ng b l end i nto the new l ook o f the Braamfonte i n prec i nct . 
