A s one of the top medical and heal th sciences facul t ies in South Af rica, Stel lenbosch Univers i ty’s Facul ty of Medicine and Heal th Sciences has a respons ibi l i ty to lead the endeavour to ensure heal thy l ives and wel lbeing for al l . The Facul ty’s new Biomedical Research Inst i tute (BMRI ) forms a ful ly integrated, future- focused and superbly organi sed research complex that matches and, in several ways , exceeds the best the world has to of fer. The BMRI i s based at the Univers i ty’s Tygerberg campus , wi thin the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, and i s dedicated to understanding the genet ic and biomolecular bas i s of di sease and wi l l be decidedly Af rica in focus . The new faci l i ty al lows for the immediate expans ion of current research act ivi t ies , as wel l as the strengthening of research and teaching capaci ty in fields such as bioinformat ics , genomics , anatomy, surger y and neurology. Wi th the planning of thi s project , fi rst meet ings were held in 2013 and the concept approval was only reached by 2017. Counci l approval and the tender process was completed in 2018, where af ter the project was able to commence wi th WBHO breaking ground in Januar y 2019 for complet ion in November 2022. The project started of f wi th a contract value of R670m but has increased s ince and i s now at a value of R714m. The BMRI cons i sts of a new bui lding (13 938 m 2 ) cons i st ing of four floors above basement level as wel l as a refurbi shment of the exi st ing FISAN bui lding (17 367 m 2 ) that has s ix floors above basement level and i s l inked together by the Atrium. included wi thin the project i s a Dean’s Garden, east parking area, Central HVAC plant upgrade, new parking at the main entrance and sport ’s field, new tenni s courts and a bus embayment .

Bridgewater Precinct ’s Centur y Ci ty Square, and has set the benchmark for other high profi le developments to fol low wi thin the former Ratanga Junct ion vicini ty.
B ridgewater One i s a mixed-use development s i tuated between the once iconic Ratanga Junct ion Theme Park and the Centur y Ci ty Hotel and Conference Centre. The developer and profess ional team refer to the development as mixed use at i t incorporates both commercial and res ident ial bui ldings wi thin i ts confines , which also includes beaut i ful and relaxing recreat ional and natural components . The development cons i sts of an 88 room hotel , a 122 apartment complex which i s set against the banks of a new waterbody, which was once Ratanga Junct ion. Final ly, three commercial of fice blocks complete the precinct , which as a uni t have been des igned in uni son wi th the hotel and apartment complex to form a beaut i ful courtyard wi th extens ive landscape features for use by the general publ ic.
