The powertrain has been significantly improved and offers a better cooling capacity, reworked cylinder heads and improved injectors. The gearbox has been upgraded to ensure smoother gear shifting. “All in all,” says Vlasberg,””this leads to a 5% reduction in the use of fuel.” By bringing the front axle forward by 5 cm, Scania managed to improve safety by decreasing the braking distance by 2 m. “We have made a safe truck even safer with industry first side airbags. This will reduce injuries should the truck roll over – achieving at least a 25% reduction in injury,” says Friberg. The verdict of customers is vital. The new truck generation has been available in Europe for two years and is already a best seller as Scania’s market share grows.
