REPLACEABLE LAMPS IN DOWNLIGHTS AND SPOTS

the LED version of the traditional E27 lamp. The introduction of these lamps has already changed the lighting industry, but the launch of a new technology, will completely revolutionise the commercial lighting industry. This new range is the PAR30, and is already available from the main lamp suppliers, including Spazio Lighting. A new range of luminaires to fit this type of lamp has been manufactured. The range includes: recessed downlights; surface and track mounted spots; and industrial pendants. The PAR30 lamps are available in 20 W, 30 W and 40 W versions and can be fitted to relevant luminaires designed for the lamps, all in an E27 base.

using, and are still using in many applications, has the problem that while we save on electricity costs, maintenance costs go up because the whole luminaire has to be replaced periodically. In recent years, LED chip development has kept heat dissipation to a minimum. New technology has generated an entirely new range of replaceable lamps that have been developed to allow for easy lamp replacement. First, the LED equivalent to the T8 linear fluorescent lamp was invented and, soon after, came the introduction of T8 LED tubes. More lamps were created with the purpose of easy lamp replacement, including GU10 lamps and

LED lighting has become the only way that lumi- naires emit light; the old technology is obsolete. When LED lighting was first introduced into the mar- ket, the LED chip was integrated into the luminaire. The reason for integrating the chip was for heat dissipation – to keep the chip at the correct oper- ating temperature. The higher the light output and the wattage of the LED, the higher the need for heat dissipation. This LED technology has shown the advantages of energy saving and the long life of the chip. However, it does have one major drawback, that when the chip fails, the whole luminaire needs to be replaced. The integrated luminaire we have been

The PAR30 range has a number of benefits worth mentioning. These include: Should the chip fail, the shop owner will not have to replace the entire luminaire at the end of its life, as would be the case with older technology LED fittings. It will be as easy as unscrewing the PAR30 lamp and screwing a new lamp into the E27 base. The capital expenditure of a complete luminaire replacement, in addition to the reinstallation of the light fitting, is an immediate saving at the end of the life of the chip. The simplicity of the lamp replacement must also be taken into account, whether it is for routine maintenance of the fittings or for singular or sporadic replacement. The cost of the lamp is far less than the cost of the integrated version of the same components, therefore bringing an additional cost saving benefit. Retail Optics allow for an improved shopper experience through the Low Glare optics. Various leading lamp manufacturers have already invested in large volume production of the PAR30 technology and have made these lamps available in some countries. They will be available in more countries as soon as production volumes are able to meet increasing demand.
