SIMPLIFIED SAFETY COMPLIANCE TESTING REDUCES THE RISK OF SHOCK AND ARC FLASH

EXTENDED ENERGY MANAGEMENT AND APP FOR THE MOBILE RECORDING OF CONSUMPTION DATA

SIEMENS has expanded its ISO 50001 certi- fied energy management portfolio to include Simatic Energy Manager Basic V7.1. Designed for entry-level energy management, Simatic Energy Manager Basic offers the user energy transpar- ency quickly created by web-based engineering and data connection. The customised design of dashboards and reports enables initial efficiency measures to be derived quickly. If the require- ments increase, for example, in the direction of batch or material-related analyses, baseline management or energy consumption forecast, the user upgrades to energy management with Simatic Energy Manager PRO V7.1 simply with a license key. Simatic Energy Manager PRO V7.1 now offers not only extended analytical pos- sibilities, but also additional interfaces, such as that to the Simatic S7 Energy Efficiency Moni- tor for assessing the efficiency of machines and plants. This is a step toward the energy labelling of industrial plants and machines. Also new is the connectivity to the MindSphere, the cloud-based, open IoT operating system, for further analyses. Siemens has brought the Simatic Energy Manager V1.0 app for iOS and Android onto the market to provide the simple, intuitive mobile re- cording of consumption data. The user uses them

for the efficiency analysis of machines and plants, company-wide energy efficiency controlling, cost centre billing, and optimisation of the energy pro- curement. Energy flows and consumption can be made transparent and understandable in all areas of a company. Simatic Energy Manager is easily set up and configured for the particular ap- plication – both for interaction with the automa- tion and for recording data manually. Pre-defined templates for reports and configurable dash- boards support reporting.

up time. Featuring lightweight and compact construction, in enclosed or open-frame con- figurations, size and weight are pared down to 99 mm x 82 mm x 30 mm and 0.23 kg for the 35 W models. The 150 W models are 159 mm x 97 mm x 30 mm and 0.48 kg. Comprehensive safety features are built in, including hiccup-mode short-circuit protec- tion with auto-recovery, up to 150% overload capability, and over-voltage protection for the 100 W and 150 W models. The power sup- plies are designed for excellent reliability with cooling by free air convection, having a broad operating temperature range and long rated lifetime. All units shipped are subjected to ag- ing tests and come with a three-year warranty. RS Pro models are CE and UL approved, and feature a universal ac input allowing oper- to record the consumption data that are not or cannot be networked with the energy manage- ment system. The counter is identified by simply scanning the QR or bar code, and the correspond- ing count value is entered. Direct data validation enhances the quality of the data. Simatic Energy Manager is used through- out companies and across sites in industry and production for certified energy management according to ISO 50001. Companies use the energy management system from Siemens for optimised and economical energy management. Simatic Energy Manager PRO provides support

FLUKE’S tester sources both ac and dc steady-state voltage for Hi-Z and Lo-Z instruments, thus simplify- ing safety compliance testing. The Fluke® PRV240 Proving Unit provides a safe and convenient method for ‘ test before touch’ TBT verifica- tion of electrical test tools without placing the electrician or technician in potentially hazardous electrical environ- ments, which would generally involve using known live voltage sources. In contrast to using a known live source, using the PRV240 does not require personal protective equip- ment (PPE) for tester verification. Use of the PRV240 reduces the risk of shock and arc flash compared to verification of test instruments on high-energy sources in potentially hazardous electrical environments be- cause the PRV240 provides a known voltage in a con- trolled, low-current state in accordance with safe work practices. The pocket-sized PRV240 sources 240 V of both ac and dc steady-state voltage for testing of both high- and low-impedance multimeters, clamp meters, and two-pole testers, eliminating both the need for multiple verification tools and the use of a known high-energy voltage source for test instrument verification. To avoid accidental contact, the voltage is supplied through recessed contacts that are activated only when test probes are inserted into the modules insulated access points. A single LED indicates the sourcing of the volt- age to verify the test tool, simplifying test tool verifica- tion without the need for PPE. The proving unit can perform up to 5 000 tests per set of four AA batteries and comes with a TPAK mag- netic hanging strap for easy accessibility.

HIGH-PERFORMING 35 W-150 W CHASSIS-MOUNTS

B uilding on the RS Pro brand values, and offering flexible choices for de- signers, the new high performance range of more than 80 chassis-mount switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), cov- ers power ratings from 15 W to 1 000 W and a choice of fixed, single dc output at 5 V, 12 V, 24 V, 36 V or 48 V. The outputs are regulated within ±10%, with ripple and noise as low as 120 mVp-p at 12 V. Featuring high-quality components and state-of-the-art power-conversion topology, the power supplies reach efficiency of more than 90% for some variants. No-load power consumption is as low as 0.2 W, depending on the power rating. The underlying high- quality design principles also result in fast rise time, low inrush current, and long hold-

ation from line voltages anywhere in the world. EN55022 Class-B EMC compliance, and iso- lation resistance up to 100 M Ω at 500 V dc, simplify design-in to a wide variety of appli- ances, including medical equipment. The RS Pro family of chassis-mount switched-mode power supplies are available now from RS.

BMG’s Motoline solar inverters for water pumps have been designed for de- pendable use in agricultural irrigation and water feed systems, for rural do- mestic and municipal water supply, as well as for ponds and dams. “All solar powered systems require a solar inverter to convert dc generated by solar panels or other alternative sources, into ac for use in industrial, com- mercial and residential applications,” explains Mick Baugh, electronics sales manager, BMG’s electromechanical division. “BMG’s Motoline P19000-SSolar series inverters for photovoltaic (PV) water pumps have integrated Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms, which support accurate tracking of the PV output, to ensure the best possible power output is achieved. “Other high performance features of these solar inverters include dry-run protection, tank water level control and a dual ac and dc supply mode. This series supports ac input connectivity, in addition to the dc input from a PV system, allowing the ac input to feed the drive when the PV supply is limited. A clear LED display indicates the real-time situation and system parameters and the RS485 remote control system enhances the flexibility of the system.” BMG MOTOLINE SOLAR INVERTERS FOR PV WATER PUMPS

Motoline P19000 So- lar inverters have built-in protection and diagnostic mechanisms to provide full electronic protection to the motor and pump system, minimising maintenance re- quirements and extending the service life of the system.
