LICROSS: MORE THAN LIGHT

W ith the new Licross trunking sys- tem, Osram Lighting Solutions provides a flexible and future-ca- pable basis for many applications in industry and retail. The system forms the backbone for all lighting tasks and also offers many highly useful features above and beyond the light thanks to an extensive portfolio of sensors, the e:cue Sympholight light control software and cloud-based data manage- ment. As a holistic lighting solution, Licross sup- ports modern industrial companies to in- crease their operational efficiency and opti- mise production processes. The system provides users with an over- view of resources such as employees, energy and systems and can also identify potential for optimisation and immediately trigger measures for improvements. Sensors can be integrated into the trunking system at any time, for example for daylight-dependent or motion-dependent light control, monitoring of ambient conditions (e.g. temperature and humidity) and hall utilisation. In combination with the cloud-based Symphograph data management system, energy consumption data and maintenance status data (for pre- dictive maintenance) of the lighting installa- tion can be recorded, analysed and visualised, as can information about ambient conditions and movement- and utilisation profiles within a hall (heat mapping). Symphograph runs on Osram’s new Lightelligence cloud platform and uses the services specifically developed for the lighting industry. V isually, tension wire lighting systems offer a very subtle, yet definitively industrial-type aesthetic that can compliment modern, ec- lectic, bohemian or even traditional interiors equally well. Comprising lights that are suspended mid-air by a thin cable, they are also highly adaptable to awkward situations, such as lighting that needs to be installed over skylights or suspended between beams for example. “By design, tension wire lighting systems are visually lightweight and comparatively subtle – allowing them to compliment a wide variety of décor styles. They are also very easy to install,

WINTER LIGHTING TIPS A s the days get shorter and temperatures start to dip, consumers may be looking for ways to transform their homes from breezy summer abodes to cosy winter dens. When the nesting season is upon them, they often switch out the summer linen for winter sheets, invest in chunky throws for the sofa and layer up the rugs. But when it comes to keeping the heat in, what about lighting? A few key swaps and easy additions to home lighting are great for creating warmth during the cold months and setting a cosy ambience. Here are a few tips from Eurolux for getting a home lighting winter-ready… Dimmer switches If you don’t already have dimmer switches installed then now’s the time to consider them. Being able to adjust the strength of light in a roommeans that it can go from bright and functional to cosy and ambient in seconds. Dimmable lights are one of the easiest ways to add visual warmth to a room in winter. Eurolux has a range of dimmers and switches. Warm white bulbs While cool lighting is great for summer months, warm- er bulbs are better suited for winter. Warmer lights re- late to our natural circadian rhythm and help us relax and wind down, which is nice for winter when we seek comfort at home. A warm white bulb in the living room or bedroom will make all the difference this winter. Table lamps Table lamps are great for creating a layered look and

The trunking system features a functional design and also scores with high levels of flexibility and investment safety. It can be modified at any time to changes in room use and can be expanded with additional sen- sors. The robust range of luminaires is avail- able up to a protection rating of IP64 and offers many light inserts with new lighting technologies for all possible industrial and retail applications. The tunable white version for example enables colour temperature and light intensity to simulate the course of daylight, thereby activating the biorhythm of employees. Such Human Centric Light- ing solutions support the concentration and performance capacity of workers and can therefore also improve levels of productivity at the workplace. Einstone transmitter units (intelligent bea- cons for location-based services) can be integrated to support the retail trade in un- derstanding customer routes, and display merchandise and advertising campaigns in eye-catching ways. Dealers can also commu- nicate with customers via mobile end devices to attract their attention to special offers for example.

providing soft light in cosy corners. Play around with different combinations and shades for an interest- ing effect. Creams and whites are generally used for summer, while in winter richer, darker colours help achieve a look appropriate for the season. Designs to look out for this season are the Hallstat table lamp with opal glass, the Athens table lamp, the Pasteri ta- ble lamp which is available in a variety of colours, the Pedregal table lamp and the Contempo metal desk lamp. Copper Copper lighting is right on-trend and perfect for up- dating the look and feel of a space as the season transitions. Nothing says ‘winter’ quite like a warm, orange glow and this metal-of-the-moment provides just that. If you’re wanting in on the trend then con- sider pendant lighting such as the Toledo pendant, the Larissa pendant, or the Seville pendant. Bathroom heaters While this suggestion may seem rather indulgent, you won’t look back once it’s installed. Consider a three- in-one unit that offers light, heat and an extractor fan. This streamlined, space-saving solution requires only one installation point and is perfect for small bath- rooms. Installing a bathroom heater does involve a longer process than simply swapping out a light bulb, but you’ll be thankful you did it when your bathroom is toasty and comfortable during the colder months.

TENSION WIRE LIGHTING SYSTEMS AN ATTRACTIVE SOLUTION

Davidson: “Previously, wire lighting systems came with halogen globes, however, you can now invest in wire lighting systems with LED lights, which are far superior as they use less energy to run, and last for much longer than any of their halogen counterparts. The Sarabi Wire Kit for example, comes with five warm white MR16 LED globes.” The Sarabi Wire Kit comprises five LED MR16 globes, and a driver that is able to run wire span of five metres.

and you can install them in a wide variety of situ- ations. They can be mounted on walls or ceilings, and run up to 5 m in length without any mid-way support – enough to accommodate some of the most challenging spaces,” says Melissa David- son from leading lighting supplier, The Lighting Warehouse. Wire tension lighting systems are made up of two parallel lengths of wire, plus an extra length that will run to the transformer, wire tension holders at each end, a transformer, feed-ins, and of course, the actual globes.
