LIGHTING

MAKE LIGHT WHILE THE SUN SHINES O utdoor luminaires need to tick a lot of boxes as they likely serve the double duty of security and ambient lighting. They need to be practical, durable and – pref- erably – as cost effective as possible.

playfulness to the piece. The fitting is made of a durable plastic with a diffused plastic lens. It has an on/off switch and battery life of up to 40 hours. The Solar Dragonfly Lantern is a portable solar lamp that adds an inviting light to any dark space. In its open position, the lantern accumulates solar energy during the day, but it can also be charged via USB cable on an electrical network. The 3-step dimmer allows the fitting to be adjusted for the preferred ambience. Made from a durable plastic with a diffused plastic lens, it is available in four colours (blue, red, green, grey). The rechargeable battery lasts for up to 40 hours, and comes standard with an on/off switch. The sleek and elegant design of the Solar Motion Sensor Wall Washer makes it suitable for most commercial and residential outdoor spaces. With technology that includes an integrated solar panel and a wide-angle PIR motion sensor this is a hard-working lamp that doesn’t disappoint on the aesthetic front. The fitting and the lens are made of a durable plastic, and it comes with a rechargeable battery that has a two-hour lifetime. The Solar Motion Sensor Wall Washer offers complete outside security lighting. A separate, adjustable solar panel on a 5 m cable means the panel can be positioned to spots where it will capture optimal sunlight throughout the day. The motion sensor has a 150° angle and a 15 m detection range. The plastic fitting and lens come in a silver colour. A rechargeable battery comes standard with the light.

Incremental improvements in solar lighting have seen the technology take off in recent years and with the product becoming ever-more sophisticated, there is no need to worry about light fading when it is needed most. The Solar Table Cube’s 3-step dimmer allows the fitting to be adjusted for the right ambience. Available in blue, red, green or a vivid grey, the colours add a touch of

Available from Eurolux, the Lutec range offers high-efficiency solar panels in combination with powerful LED modules that ensure sufficient lighting for various outdoor applications.

S amsung Electronics Co., Ltd, has announced two additions to its chip-scale package (CSP) line-up: LM101B, a 1 W- class mid-power LED, and LH231B, a 5 W-class high-power LED. Built with enhanced CSP technology, the new LED packages deliver industry-leading efficacy and reliability for spotlights and high-bay lighting applications. The LM101B and the LH231B packages are based on Samsung’s state-of-the-art, fillet-enhanced CSP (FEC) technology, which forms TiO 2 walls around the chip surface to reflect its light output towards the top, acting as a plastic mould in conventional EMC-based LEDs. SAMSUNG INTRODUCES ENHANCED CHIP-SCALE LED PACKAGES

With their FEC design, the packages provide a higher light efficacy level when compared to Samsung’s previous generation of CSP LEDs. The more focused beam also helps to eliminate cross-talk between neighbouring packages and enables the new packages to be placed in close proximity to one another, offering greater flexibility to luminaire designers. “Our FEC line-up represents an outstanding set of highly advanced LED component solutions that accommodate a variety of luminaire designs from below 1000 lm to well over 10 000 lm,” says Jacob Tarn, executive vice president of LED Business Team at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung will continue to pave the way for widespread adoption of CSP technology in the mainstream lighting market, bringing greater performance and cost benefits to a growing number of lighting manufacturers.” LM101B: 1 W-class mid-power FEC The LM101B features the highest efficacy among currently available mid- power CSP LEDs with 200 lm/W (Ra 80 5000 K, 65 mA, 25 ˚C). Further- more, with low thermal resistance (2 K/W) and high reliability (0.5 W, 105 ˚C, L90>50000 hours), the LM101B has been optimised for spotlights and high- bay applications where high efficacy and long lifespan are required. LH231B: 5 W-class high-power FEC With an operating current of 2 A (max. 6 W), the LH231B offers an efficacy of 170 lm/W (Ra 70 5000 K, 700 mA, 85 ˚C). This is the same high efficacy level offered by ceramic-based high-power LEDs, one that can bring a high degree of cost-effectiveness when applied to high-bay applications that re- quire an output between 5 000 and 10 000 lm. Thanks to Samsung’s FEC structure, the 120-degree beam angle allows for simple optic designs, mak- ing it suitable for outdoor applications, such as street and parking lot lighting. The LM101B and LH231B complement the currently available 3 W-class high- power LH181B CSP LED, and the entire FEC line-up is now in mass production. Enquiries: ujeong@samsung.com
